For the last couple of weeks Patrick and myself have been leading workshops at the Factory Youth Zone in Harpurhey. Coming out of our comfort zone at the Whitworth and entering the HUGE Factory Youth Zone, it’s fair to say we were a little daunted at first. Not by the fact that we had to lead workshops in a new environment but by the size of the building and the range of activities The Factory offers. A gym, sports hall, rock climbing, cooking courses and a drama and dance studio. It was hard to compete with such a range of activities!
Setting ourselves up Pat kicked off the first three sessions by leading a series of drop in workshop games which focused on ideas within drama and writing. The next three were lead by myself starting with listening to sound and how to interpret it through drawing, then leading onto a DIY mono printing workshop looking at how to mono print using everyday materials, and finishing with a making your own roller stamp workshop.
It was great to work at a new youth centre and engage with a different audience of young people. We hope to work with Factory Youth Zone in the next couple of months on a project for our upcoming festival. Keep your eyes peeled!
