A abstract depiction of the word 'love'

Tate Exchange Love

This year we'll be exploring the theme of ‘Love’ as way to consider issues facing our society today

Tate Modern, Bankside, London, SE1 9TG

Tate Exchange invites you into a year-long consideration of 'love' with our Associates, their communities and the Tate collection.

A complex and profound emotion, and a feeling that connects us to something bigger than ourselves, love is ambivalent – both known and unknown, yearned for or shunned, certain and uncertain. We feel it in a variety of different states – when we’re happy, sad, angry, confused or excited. Love is directed to people, places, objects and actions. We express love as self-care as individuals and of the social contract of care through mutual aid.

As a space that asks questions, Tate Exchange will question love, its coda, its expectations, its absence, its action, and how it changes lives. We will rethink love as a way to consider issues facing our society today.

Our Associates and their communities will respond to this through a year-long programme to July 2021 that embraces love as a lifeforce to bring people together. We will ask what it is we love to do, to make, who we love to be with. Working with pre-loved objects and materials, we will consider what is the future we want that we will love? Conversation will move between love as hope and trust and care, to healing, passion, and on to queering love and love in processes and actions of decolonisation.
